New Data Transfer Speed Record
Nowadays transfer speed rate has increased up to 43 Terabit/s. A new world record for data transfer speed was reached by researches from DTU (Danmarks Tekniske Universitet). The previous record was set by the researches from The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and equaled 32 Terabit/s. Besides the point, data transfer speed is a parameter that indicates the amount of information that can be transmitted over a communication channel for a certain period of time.
Thus, the Dutch specialists used a 7 core fiber-optic cable, which was developed by the experts from the Japanese telecommunications company NTT, and one laser transmitter. The cable is of the same diameter as that of the advanced modern products, in spite of the larger number of cores.
The record speed corresponds to the transfer of 1 GB of data per 0.2 ms. It is equivalent to 5.4 TB / s. For example, with this speed, you can copy a 1GB file in 0.2 ms.
According to the Dutch researcher’s reports, due to the achieved record there will be a reduced amount of consumed energy in the networks support of the Internet, while the transfer speed will be increased. However, this speed rate will not be available for ordinary users.
